GOOGLE Sydney visit as a Regional Online Heroes 2016 finalist
Four weeks ago, Local Farm Produce was announced as one of the ‘Top 10’ finalists in the Regional Online Heroes 2016 competition organised by the Regional Australia Institute (RAI) and Google Australia. Since then we attended the Digital Masterclass at Google Australia in Sydney on Monday the 5th December along with the other 9 finalists, which was an amazing experience.
We were flown to Sydney the day before the masterclass, picked up by our own personal driver and put up in an amazing hotel in Darling Harbour with surprise Regional Online Heroes goody bags in our rooms in preparation for the masterclass the following day.
On Monday, the 5th December the 10 finalists met in the foyer of the hotel and were taken to the Google Australia office. We had initial rounds of introductions and then had lunch. The Digital Masterclass program that afternoon had a packed agenda consisting of topics such as current consumer trends, steps to being found online by more customers, 1:1 consultation with an online specialist, a Google office tour, Public Relations training, learning about the culture and talent at Google, learning about GSuite and Google Cloud, Principles of marketing, panel discussion with some of the judges and the announcement of the winner by the Hon Michael McCormack MP, Minister for Small Business and Federal Member for Riverina.
The final winner was AGDATA Australia from Toowoomba QLD. They were very deserving winners who have provided leading-edge farm management software solutions for the last 30yrs. Everybody received their own award for being in the ‘Top 10’ of the Regional Online Heroes 2016 competition and had their photo taken with the Minister. All finalists were made to feel special and that we were all winners.
After the Digital Masterclass, they took us on a Sydney Harbour water cruise and then we enjoyed each other’s company for an amazing 5 course dinner at the Gantry restaurant under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
It was an amazing experience and we encourage all small regional businesses around Australia to apply for the competition next year!
