Welcome to the Mackay region! With its ideal farming conditions they produce world-class beef, seafood, fruit and vegetables, and are still relatively unknown as a food destination. It is one of the biggest sugar cane growing regions in Australia. This region is a central hub for the sugar cane and mining industries. It is also the gateway to the Whitsundays region and the Bowen Basin where people can explore a 300Km historic mining trail. Just south of Mackay is the sugar can region of Sarina which offers by-products such as crushed cane juice, sauces and rum/liqueurs. Mackay is a great base for exploring the beautiful waterfalls and rainforest of the hinterland at Eungella National Park and Finch Hatton Gorge.
