Welcome to the Flinders Ranges and Outback; the largest region of South Australia which runs from the coast all the way to the Northern Territory border. This vast region is packed with stunning ancient landscapes, wilderness and history. You can taste delicious seafood such as blue swimmer crab, snapper and King George whiting at Port Augusta or Port Pirie on the coast or taste local native cuisine such as kangaroo tail soup and emu egg omelette in the Outback. This region has endless outdoors experiences including hiking trails, camping, 4WD trips, beachside activities, vineyards and bush walks. The outback is home to Anna Creek Station; the world’s largest farm at 6 million acres and runs over 17,000 head of cattle. You can visit Australia’s largest salt lake, Lake Eyre, or you can sleep underground to keep cool as you explore the opal mining history of the town of Coober Pedy or fly over Marree to see the 4.2km long image known as Marree Man. This region is rich in Aboriginal heritage and culture, and is home to a lot of ancient Aboriginal rock art. This region also contains the longest structure in the whole world, the Dingo fence, which stretches 5400km and separates the southern sheep-framing farms from the dingoes to the north.
