Australia's South West
Welcome to Australia’s South West region; a region of world famous taste sensations. When people think of this region the words that come to mind are vineyards, truffle farms, crayfish and Margaret River. There is also stunning forestry, scenery, rich colonial and whaling history, and marine life to take in when you are visiting this region too. Some of the best seafood of this region includes Marron (crayfish), yabby, trout, Albany oysters and Mandurah crab. The native blue manna crab of Mandurah is the hero of the annual Mandurah Crab Fest festival. The most famous area of this region is Margaret River; a premium wine region that runs alongside the coast and forest. Margaret River has just over 100 wineries for you to enjoy, it also has fresh produce, farm shops, cheeses, chocolates, fudge, fruit preserves, olives, breweries, honey, venison, food and wine festivals, is a surfing hotspot, has caves and many outdoor activities on offer. You can walk 1.8 kilometers out to sea along the longest wooden-piled jetty in the southern hemisphere known at Busselton Jetty, or do a Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk amongst the grand tingle trees, or do the Granite Skywalk where you can walk all over stunning granite rock and take in the amazing views. No visit to this region is complete without visiting Manjimup; home to Australia’s black truffle industry and surrounded by very tall Karri trees and national parks. Due to the rich fertile soils of this region, it is a perfect spot for growing the famous black truffle (in season from June to September) as well as vineyards. Don’t forget to go on a truffle hunt or attend the annual Truffle Kerfuffle food festival when you’re in this area.
