Beautiful Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and is a great base to explore Western Australia. Just outside Perth (about half an hour’s drive) is Swan Valley; which is home to Western Australia’s oldest vineyards where many are still run by the descendants of the original owners. Whilst you’re in the Swan Valley you could do a winery tour, learn the local heritage in one of the charming towns, visit one of the boutique breweries and taste all the fine local produce and products of the area such as cheeses, preserves, olives and chocolates. You should also visit the charming city of Fremantle (about half an hour’s drive) to sample some of the fresh local seafood at the historic Fishing Boat Harbour. A quick jump on the ferry will take you to Rottnest Island to enjoy a slower pace as there are no cars and you can really take the time to enjoy the wildlife, scenery and reefs. Rottnest is also famous for scallops so be sure to taste this delicacy when you are there. There are eight winery regions in Western Australia and all of them are only a day’s drive from Perth. You could follow the wine trails yourself or elect to join a tour with an experience wine guide.
